Expo Experts

"The Atlanta-Journal Constitution sponsored Job Fair clearly exceeded our expectations. We met over 200 highly qualified people and are working to extend multiple offers to people not only in the Southeast, but throughout the US. The return on our investment was significant and we plan on participating in the next venue."

FROM PAYSCALE.COM newsletter August 2006:

The article below is an excerpt from our Practical Salary Negotiation Guide. You can receive the entire 19-page guide for free, if you take advantage of this month's special offer for a FREE PayScale Premium report.

Five simple starting salary rules:
Rule #1 - Postpone talking about starting salary until there's an offer on the table
Rule #2 - Let the other person name a figure first
Rule #3 - Repeat the starting salary offer & be quiet
Rule #4 - Share your researched starting salary range and establish your individual value
Rule #5 - Clinch the deal and deal some more

Starting Salary Rule #1 -
When to Discuss Salary

There's not much point in discussing starting salary unless you're sure you're going to get an offer, make sense? But more than that, it's not to your advantage to talk about your starting salary. When an employer asks "what are your salary requirements?" or "what are you currently earning?" they are gathering information on your likely expectations ... Click here to finish the article

PIMP your way to a new job

One guidance on job sites and recruiters.

Often job sites postings actually lead to recruiters, not the hiring company.
Often multiple recruiters are trolling for the same job (i.e. whoever sends the winner gets the bonu$)
Recruiters don't like to submit you if another recruiter has or might have submitted you for the same position or if you sent a resume directly to hiring company. But sometimes you can't tell if you are talking to a recruiter about a job you already sent directly or via another recruiter (or sometimes via a job website which doesn't reveal the company). Reputable recruiters will tell you where they are sending your resume. Reportedly if your resume arrives at the hiring company twice, your resume could get thrown out.

This can get confusing. Don't worry too much. Hard to tell if it is better to have a PIMP or go directly.

Your new office

If you don't have a room that you call "office" or SOHO, etc. then make one.

You will be in your office at least 8 hours a day (the "star" place you used to call home won't be available in just a few business days).

You need to be able to get away from the spouse, kids, etc. and WORK to find employment.

Now is not the time to be picky - apply to about 3 jobs a day.

When you find a position or recruiter seeking someone, post it here.
The same goes for new job search sites (we already know about monster and careerbuilder) and recruiters.
